Fairtrade Shopping Links

July 17, 2007

There are a wealth of fairtrade stores online, Adam has previously talked about Fairtrade on eBay. Here are a few more links that I have found on my travels in the UK.

If you have any experience with any of these sites and/or wish to be added to this list then please let us know via a comment or the contact us form.

Heroes Episode Guide - Chapter 23: How To Stop An Exploding Man

July 16, 2007

SPOILER ALERT!

So it’s finally arrived. The final episode of Heroes. And it was a cracker. And a culmination of what all came before it does leave some questions, but I like finding out and didn’t feel annoyed at all.

Hiro saves Ando and for a moment it seems only Sylar dies. But then he doesn’t and will Pete of Nathan survive? What we saw in Five Years Gone doesn’t come to pass, Nathan steps up to the plate and helps Peter. Or so it seems, maybe it still does, we’ll have to wait and see. Why Peter can’t control his power I’m not sure, Sylar has he same one and he can but maybe it takes him longer.

Claire shows she is a true hero as does Hiro. Peter going into the past to see the man he looked after was an unexpected highlight, what does that generation have to do with everything and what powers do they have? Maybe the rumoured spin-off series, Heroes: Origins, will tell us.

If you can’t wait until September 24 for the next series (in America at least), you can find rumours and news at this excellent site.

How To Trace The Origin Of What You Buy

July 16, 2007

There are a few websites out there that provide ways to trace the origin of the food products you buy. Nature & More is a company that evaluates the quality of organic food to any company that signs up. Each product gets a code that you can then enter on their website to get the full history of the product.

Wheresyoursfrom and MyFreshEgg are sites that provide the traceability of eggs, whilst Lloyd Maunder provides it for their lamb, Borges for their olive oil and Dole for their organic fruit.

Song of the Day - Lemon Jelly

July 14, 2007

Being a huge fan of the TV series Spaced, I recently came across this song, which I immediately recognised as the background track to the final scene of the final episode. I could only find two versions on YouTube, one which accompanied a random person’s photo collection, and a live version from last year. The photos weren’t really that interesting, so went for the live version! It takes a minute or so to get going, but stick with it. Oh, forgot to say it’s called The Staunton Lick.

English singer-songwriter Kate Nash performs the track ‘Foundations’ live on BBC2’s Later… with Jools Holland. Great song!

See How Much C02 You Are Saving

July 13, 2007

This is an interesting idea, C02Saver is a desktop appication that will manage your computer’s power usage when it’s idle, saving energy.

Obviously the less electricity produced, the fewer harmful emissions and greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere.

C02 Saver

I’m not sure whether knowing exactly how much C02 you’ve saved is a particulary interesting thing, simply adjusting your power settings manually would do the same, but without the figures. If anyone has tried this out, please let us know what you think.
