Heroes Episode Guide - Chapter 20: Five Years Gone
June 25, 2007

I enjoyed the last episode of Heroes so much I thought this couldn’t be as good. Turns out this was the best episode yet. It was phenomenal. So much has changed in the five year and when we think one thing has happened, we learn it was another. We thought that it wasn’t Peter who blew up New York, but Sylar. But then in fact it was Sylar and that’s not Nathan, it’s Sylar. Matt is a bad guy, then a good guy protecting his child, then a bad guy again. People like Candice and DL had parts to play - making Sylar the man he is, and Mohinder seems to be on the bad guys side - a war has broken out between the heroes.
It was just a great episode. Peter is everything you want him to be, in control of his powers and maybe the strongest hero there is, I couldn’t help smiling as when he saves future Hiro by stopping time and again when he decides not to as he hasn’t had a good fight for ages.
Future Hiro dying may actually be a good thing, with Hiro taking on the mantle and determined to save Ando. Their friendship is one of the strongest and real things in the show and makes you want Hiro to save Ando at all costs.
Sides switched so often, it was hard to tell what was going on, but what we do know is the future needs to be stopped - Sylar kills Claire, has killed Nathan and countless others and is the president. Even if Peter managed to defeat him (a fight we will surely see) then the world is still in a bad way. Come on Hiro, save the world!
Cool Recycled Gifts
June 25, 2007
For my recent birthday, one of the gifts I received was a cool coaster made from a recycled printed circuit board.
It came from Revolve, based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. They believe that they can make an environmental difference to the way people buy giftware and what they buy. Besides the coasters, they also make notebooks, mousemats, christmas decorations and loads of other stuff from printed circuit boards, plastic bags, juice cartons, coffee cups, CDs, plastic bottles, paper and yoghurt pots.

I’ve just ordered a business card holder, as fellow author Tricia has already got one.
Marks & Spencer Gets Even Greener
June 23, 2007
Retailer Marks & Spencer is paving the way in the industry with its green credentials, although in one obvious way it’s lagging behind - plastic bags. Until now that is.
Their dark green clothing bags are now made from 100% recycled material and their light green food bags are made using 20% industrial waste.
And if that’s not good enough, their Bags for Life are also completely made from recycled material. For more information, look here.
Fairtrade on eBay
June 22, 2007
Being ‘green’ also includes choosing where you buy things from. Life Goggles has mentioned Fair Trade before, but you can also now buy Fair Trade products off eBay. It has it’s on landing page here and includes shops such as People Tree, Shared Earth and Hug.
The shops sell a variety of stuff from tea to candles from necklaces to duvet sets. It seems to be gaining in popularity with more products for sale all the time.
On the subject of Fair Trade, the Hay Festival of Literature and the Arts in Hay-on-Wye, Herefordshire recently held a ‘No Cows=No Countryside’ debate. The premise being that there should be a set minimum British farmers are paid for their produce and buying local, organic produce is green. You can read more about it here.

More Eco Homes - With A Difference
June 21, 2007
Not, not the fancy homes at the Kingspan Offsite 2007 exhibition in Watford that have been in the news the last few weeks, but something a bit different. Why build a new home when you can reuse something else? Two companies have take this idea and used old transport vehicles to create housing.
Double Decker Living reuse and revive retired the famous red double-decker buses. As well as making them into homes for (mainly) temporary accommodation, it provides buses for roadshows, films etc. They currently have a five-berth bus for sale which includes a shower, kitchen, flat screen TV and, of course, a bio toilet.
Village Underground does the same with disused carriages from the Tube. Well it’s actually a charity that creates office space, not homes from them, but it’s housing of a sort. They have a ‘cultural space’ in Shoreditch in London that you can hire etc.
