What To Do With Unused Paint

Give it away!

It’s rare that you use the exact amount of paint to spruce up the living room, so if you have a spare tin of paint that’s more than a third full, you can give it a second life by donating it to charity.

Community Repaint is a charity which collects spare paint and gives it to community schemes or even individuals in desperate need. It’s a great idea and even if you’re not in the UK there may be one near you.

There are some clauses such as paint thinner and toxic paint (!) but the charity will accept:

• emulsion paint (including vinyl matt and vinyl silk emulsions)
• gloss
• eggshell
• satin paint
• undercoat
• primer
• floor paint
• masonry paint
• exterior paint
• varnishes and woodstains
• tile paint.

Where to Find Recycled Products

April 10, 2007

Sometimes trying to be healthy doesn’t work. Someone for work has a birthday and suddenly you’re tucking into a custard slice. Well the same thing happens with trying to be environmentally friendly. You buy the toilet roll and washing powder but can’t find the kitchen roll so you get something else. Or when you need a new table you don’t even think about where the wood comes from.

Well there is a handy website which can help - www.recycledproducts.org.uk. It brings together a wide variety of companies which offer recycled or partly recycled products. Put it in your favourites.

Heroes Episode Guide - Chapter 9: The Homecoming

April 9, 2007

SPOILER ALERT!

Save the cheerleader. Save the world.

That’s what we were promised and it finally looks like the time has come. But where’s Hiro? I watched this in two parts and the first 25 minutes was incredible. I loved it and had to tear myself away from it.

I worried about Hiro throughout the episode so it was nice to know we’ll get to see what happens at the end, although that may mean the Homecoming storyline may be hold for the next episode.

So many great things happened, first of all Isaac looks better cleaned up and no longer like Gaius Baltar from Battlestar Galactica. But my favourite was the humanising of all the characters - Nathan’s meaness, Ando’s realisation he depends on Hiro, Peter’s acceptance of his powers and what he must do, Mohinder realising he had a sister and his father protected him (by the way I paused the computer screen and there are at least 40 names on there, 10 of which are deceased and six our heroes we know), DL realising he must do what his son says, Claire accepting herself etc etc. It was all brilliant.

After each episode I realise lots of my questions are being answered, but new ones pop up. Peter is really a hero now but gets arrested, we see Eden’s power but it doesn’t work well on Sylar until the Haitian comes into it, Sylar’s powers seem unstoppable - he resists Eden but both the fall and the Haitian hurt him. What happens next? Has Peter already changed history and Sylar won’t be able to kill Isaac? I’m sure there’s a lot more to come.

Did I mention I want to know what happens to Hiro? It’s becoming a cliche, but I can’t wait for the next episode.

The Online Video Editing Revolution

April 6, 2007

Life Goggles can already hold claim to The Ultimate Guide to Online Video, but what about online video editing?

With the launch of Adobe Remix on Photobucket imminent, there are a host of other sites that offer video editing tools.

Essentially video editing sites try to provide the basics and most used functions of a desktop video editing application, online. They usually allow imports from video sharing sites be imported and edited. To varying degrees you can cut, loop, skip, mix with other videos, add audio and/or other images.

Sites which currently provide at least some of these features are Cuts, Gotuit, Eyespot, Jumpcut (now owned by Yahoo!), MotionBox, Veoh, Grouper, Webshots, Fliqz, GoFish, Lycos Mix, Mojiti and Dabble.
