After choosing your energy provider, you may be using clean, green energy but it’s still a good idea to use less. Not only does this reduce the cost to you, but also means there’s more green energy for others to use.
Life Goggles’ 100 Ways To Save The Planet has many energy saving ideas from using efficient lightbulbs to defrosting your freezer regularly. However there are numerous products and ideas out there which will help you reduce your energy use.

The Climate Savers Computing Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to climate conservation and slowing global warming by reducing the energy computers consume by 50% by 2010 by encouraging the widespread deployment of power management tools and energy efficient computers. They recently launched an online catalog that makes it quick and easy to find energy-efficient computers, which can cut energy bills by an average of $7 to $10 per system per year, a big saving for businesses.
Sust-it is a site that helps you to make smarter choices about the applicances you buy, by providing information on the most energy efficient products on the market. You can search for specific products to see how much power they use (kWh/year), used kgCO2/year and the cost this equates to per day and per year.
Green Stamp sell all sorts of green products and eco devices, including the
Eco Kettle. For a fridge freezer check out www.savawatt.com if their website is up, LG have launched a steam clean washing machine, www.maplin.co.uk sell a plug-in power and energy monitor, the Denon D-F102DAB mini hifi has low standby usage and Sharp now make a TV with built in freeview that uses just 132W. Bye Bye Standby is a device that completely cuts power at the flick of a switch, and we are currently product testing the Solio H1000 solar device charger which looks great, look out for a review coming soon.
Finally Philips has launched www.asimpleswitch.com to “help consumers make a difference”. It provides information to consumers on the simple actions that they can take to help reduce energy consumption without compromising on quality of life.
