Amazon launches online TV and movie downloads - but US only
September 12, 2006 · Written by Joel
Called Amazon Unbox, the service lets you download movies in Windows Media Video (.wmv) format that is only playable on the Unbox player. There is also a mobile version for use on an iRiver, Zen, Archos or other portable video player.

The service lets you rent or buy TV shows ($1.99) and movies ($10 - $20) and currently there is a fairly impressive range. An hour’s worth of TV or a movie is roughly 1GB, so those on restricted download broadband packages might want to steer clear for now.
