Walking Sharks

Okay it wasn’t as exciting as it promised. I thought they’d be walking along the beach smoking cigars or something.

They’re (as opposed to me) finding new areas of the earth that show how rich the diversity of life here is. I find it amazing there are still unexplored places on the planet. I kind of think scientists and documentary makers should leave certain areas alone for a couple of hundred years and then go back and see what they’re like. If they let anyone one else in we’ll only ruin it.
Planet Earth starts again soon (well autumn as the BBC vaguely puts it), in the meantime you can enjoy their website - who doesn’t want a polar bear as their wallpaper eh?

As a nature enthusiast since my young days I love these kinds of stories. It is fascinating how we keep discovering new species, and in some cases species we were convinced had been extinct for goodness knows how many years (such as the coelacanth - try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coelacanth my unknowledgeable chums).
Given the (relatively) recent finds around the high pressure, high temperature deep sea thermal vents the big discover I’m waiting for is the first “off world” disovery of life, possibly beneath the ice of Europa (one of the Jupiter moons).
“They’re… finding new areas of the earth” - who are “they”? “They” seem to be very busy these days - “They’re digging up the road again”, “Why did they change it to Snickers?”, etc…
“They” are the same as “Someone” but with more class, as in “Someone has been sick outside the tube station again”
[...] We’ve had walking sharks, now here’s someone who would like to walk a short distance, but has to do a 14 mile bus trip simply to cross the road outside her house. [...]
