Lock up your daughters

It’s all very ‘worthy’ but not sure Blackout London will work. It’s a plan for everyone in London to turn off all your lights, and switch off all your non-essential electrical equipment at Sunset. Switching off all the lights to make a point isn’t a new idea but in theory it’s a good one. However, how’s it ever going to work? It could work in a smaller city, a town maybe, or a cul-de-sac perhaps, but the whole of London? Gimme a break.
Firstly the lights are on office buildings that are empty. No-one’s going to switch those off. Secondly the place is full of tourists who’ll have no idea what’s going on if suddenly all the lights go off. And it’ll be an ideal time to commit crime. There’s a reason they put bright lights in subways you know.
Okay, maybe I’m being harsh. I like the theory that newspapers will report that power consumption dropped to an all time low but what will that achieve? For at least 50 years people have been banging on about climate change and pollution but we’ve done practically nothing about it. The emphasis is on “we’ve†done nothing but most people see it as someone else’s problem - probably their kids or grand-kids. That’s why I’m not having children. Okay, that’s not why but it’s another excuse to add to the list.
It’s on 4th November by the way.

Well I knew about it, and in all honesty I did keep my electricity consumption to a minimum…but didn’t unplug anything and everything. Had a quick browse on http://news.bbc.co.uk and couldn’t see much…naturally there was plenty of other news but nowt about the effects of ‘Blackout London’
